I'm Back

Its been over a month since I've posted but I finally am back from doind nothing and there is so much to talk about. First the Leafs are horrible right hitting a down whril spiral into 14th in the east and with two horrible games in California already things dont seem to be changing. So whats the answer?

Many believe a trade to grab a top player is needed, others believe this team is going nowhere and should tank get a top along those same lines others believe the entire time should blown up from the top down. that means managment and the players, including the Captain Mats Sundin.

After losing to the worst team the league that saw Raycroft play horrible and a possible re-aggravation of Toskala's groin injury. With so much peril going on the Leafs have made one minor move and one very intriging move. First the Leafs claimed Defensive Forward Dominic Moore off of waivers from the Wild the Second was that they called up star prospect goalie Justin Pogge from the Marlies.

The Leafs play the Sharks tommorow and it is expected that Pogge will make his first start whether Moore plays no one knows until then let the madness continue.

Man I can't believe the last time I posted was Nov. 17 that sucks. Well lots have happened in leaf land(like thats a suprise) in a span of a week it sounded like the leafs front office would be changed drastically to later in the week after two wins and people are back to planning the parade. I will be updating stats on all playes and anything on the sidebar. Also I'am discontinuing the Player scouting reports since they will take too long also I will be posting a pre game post today later. Thanks.

It is likely that Vesa Toskala will start for the Leafs tonight after coming off a flu. The last time these two teams met the Sens outplayed the leafs winning 5-1. Martin Gerber is likely to get the start while Ray Emery hasnt appeared in net since losing to the Caps. The game is on CBC at 7pm et and can also be seen in HD.

I just want to update everyone on whats going on here. All profiles have updated pics (including Clemmensen,Pogge and Stralman). All Stats will be updated Monday. I'll wait 'till about Mid December when I hope this site is fully functional with every game pre and post game reports but in mid Decmber I will try to start Marlie Profiles. It was one of those games that the Leafs just didnt show up for and made a bunch of errors. I'm really suprised that the Sens didnt win by more with all the bad plays the Leafs made. Mark Bell got in a scuffle at the end of the game with Neil showing that he adds some toughness to this team hopefully its a good full year for Bell and also Wellwood had a strong game even though he had a couple of turnovers he went from the 4th line to the 2nd line with Bell and Blake. Antropov scored a goal but it still wouldnt be enough to help the Leafs. After the 4 goal the Leafs brought in Raycroft to take the Sens power off of Toskala. It was a clumsy game by the Leafs. Hopefully they play a better game Friday @ Buffalo.

Mark Bell play his first game as a Leaf tonight versus the Sens after serving his 15 game suspension he will likely play on the 4th line with John Pohl and also playing his first game of the season is Kyle Wellwood after recovering from a hernia injury.

This was a great game for the Leafs, they played hard for 60 minutes and get a well deserved win in which they finally got to Fleury and the Pens in the thrid with 4 goals two of which came from First game rookie Jiri Tlusty. Toskala looked very strong out there and made some very key saves. Of course with two goals Jiri got both 1st star and fans player of the game. Chalk it up people Kaberle has more goals then Crosby. Another chalk up a win with Kerry Fraser as the Ref and you could tell he was refing when we spent twice as much time in the box as the pens. Other news John Tavares a marlie next year (maybe(lets hope so(that would be amzing(i'm going to buy my Tavares jersy(anyone annoyed with so many brackets)ill stop)just wait)almost there)ok im done) to carry on the Leafs will be playing the Rangers saturday who well are not doing that well them selves which has already cause some Jagr trade rumours. Hal Gill last year was refered as the whipping boy of the Toronto fans. People called for his head everyone wanted him out. Its amazing how many people didnt like but take or leave it hes great player for the buck. He in my mind was one of the best pickups by JFJ. He is a big defenceman who is very hard to play against if your battling with him. He has had a tremendous start to the season and led the team in +/- last year and already is a plus 5 to start this year. Although Gill is not quick on his skates and does not have a great offensive ability. I like Gill and I think he is one of the most underapreciated guys on the team.

Recap: Tor at Buf

The Leafs honestly were very lucky that Briere and Drury were not on the Sabres anymore because they coughed up the puck and gave open looked so many times i'm suprised the Leafs came that close to winning. The bad play really showed itself in the 3rd period when they coughed up four goals to Buffalo but Toronto answered back and Kilger scored two goals to keep it tied. The most dissapointing thing was with 3 second left in OT, McCabe accidently puts it into his own net when he was trying to clear. The best players on the ice had to be Antropov,Kilger,Stajan,Steen and Gamache. Gamache has been excellent this year since his call up its amazing hes had 4 points in 3 games why didn't the keep him out of training camp instead of Newbury people this guy is amazing. Antropov its amazing I never though I would say Antropov and Leads the Leafs in Goals and the League in +/- its amzing this guy deserves his dues and is finnaly starting to hit his true potential. Raycroft did not play a horrible game and was really let down by his defence, but at the same time don't be suprised if mister Toskala plays thursday. And oh ya the leafs lost 5-4 in overtime sad to see it but atleast theres a point out of it.

The Sens winning streak was ended this week from the hands of the Canes, Cammaleri and Heatley are tied for the lead in Goals with 6 but Sundin and Antropov are tyed in the lead for Plus/Minus with 7. Niklas Backstrom-can he be Stopped, with a 4-0 record and 2 shutouts and a stunning GAA of 1.00 and only has given up 1 goal this year 5 on 5 and thats not all his backup cant be beat either Josh Harding is 1-0 with a shutout keeping the Wild with a undeafted record. While Kevin Weeks has the same amount of wins as Brodeur and Don Waddel is not guarenting the playoffs currently with the Thrashers the only team in the NHL without a point. My Baseball picks are doing well the Rockies are up 3-0 in the series to the D-Backs while the Tribe are neck to neck with the BoSox. Whats up with this Steinbrenner threatens Torre and then steps down, its a sad day when you know George Steinbrenner is not at the head of the yankees to threaten people,meh I can still watch Seinfeld re-runs(George is getting angry). And the Blue Jays hire Gary Denbo....................................it must be a temporary fill their wating to give it to Jason Phillips or Joe Torre :). Staying on hockewy topics future Toronto Maple Leaf John Tavares is off to stellar star with the Generals with 22 Points in 8 Games in his latest game he notched a hat trick with 5 points while projected number 1 pick for this years draft Steve Stamkos has 9 points in 8 games with the Sting. Moving from future Leaf Prospects to current Dale Mitchell has 5 points in 8 games with the Generals . I got to see the Bellville Bulls play the Petes it was a good game, watch out for Belesky on the Bulls and Trevor Cann on the Petes both really impressed me. Leaf Land you Have a New Leader

On Thursday with an assist on a Kaberle goal Mats Sundin passed Darryl Sittlers all-time Leaf point Leader or so the thought. As it was revealed Sundin never even touched the puck. So in dramatic fashion he sends a puck to the net in the 3rd peroid which hits Brendan Witts skate and into the net. With that Goal Sundin passed both Sittlers All-time Leaf Records of Goals and Points. The game ended in dramatic fashion with a 8-1 win over the Isles and Sundin getting the 1st,2nd and 3rd stars caping off a great rebound night from the 7-1 loss over the Canes.

Before mondays games, Mats Sundin was leading the league in assists, Nik Antropov was leading the league in +/- and as matter of fact he still is. Chris Mason and Paul Stastny have been the biggest suprises to the start of the season. Stastny is currently second in goals and tied for first in Points. Mason is starting the season of with a stunning in two games .50 GAA and a .984 Sv% amazing. The ducks are desperatly looking like they need Niedermeyer,Selanne and yes Dustin Penner. Martin Gerber 4-0 this doesnt hurt his trade stock. Nashville,Oilers, Islanders, and Washington have come out to the biggest starts to the year in a suprising way though even though its only about 3-4 games into the season for most teams but still its a interesting beginning.

Jason Blake:Leukemia

Yesterday, Jason Blake decided to let his teamates and the media that he is currently batttling Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. It is very highly treatable and will not effect his game time if he takes a postive effect to the medication. During his press conference he seemed sad but at the same time confident to play with the leafs and win a cup. Heres hoping Blake gets better.

Pavel is a great defenceman and was a great pickup by JFJ in 2006. He adds Stanley Cup experince to the team and posses a great low shot from the point and is a great point producer. He can log many minutes if needed to and can play a great game. His linemate in the 2006 Olympics (Kaberle) is his linemate here which makes for good chemistry. He has great size and able to battle for the puck. Though he struggles against speedy forwards who can get right past him and seems to be more prone to injuries through age.

Andy is a big tough defenceman to play against and plays a great all around game. He has made the leafs camp the past 2 seasons but hasnt held a spot due to shoulder surgery and other various injuries. He has the strength and size on defence that many teams rave for. He needs to improve on his mental game and needs to know when to make the correct plays he also needs to be more physical considering his size.

Kaberle is one of the most underated defenceman in the league. Tomas has the ability to win alot of Norris Trophys down the road and hopefully with the leafs. He is a very smart player who manages to find his players and give a great pass. He likes to join the attack and is the QB of the Leafs PP and manages to give a great one timer to McCabe all the time. He is a great defensive specimen and is hard to get around. He still needs to shoot more because he has an excellent shot. He also needs to get bigger so he can handle the more bigger forwards in the NHL. He is a great definition of a sleeper pick and still has the poetential to evolve into one of the best defence in the league.

Bryan McCabe has been one of the most feared offensive Defencemen in the league over the past couple of years. He is near the top of the chart over the past couple years for most points by a defenceman. He has a blistering slapshot which 99% of the time comes from a pass by Tomas Kaberle. Him and Kaberle have been one of the most deadly power play combos at the blue line and have connected one timers a few dozen times since the lockout.McCabe is an extremly aggresive player in the defensive and can log enormous amount of minutes when needed to and is one of the best power play defenseman in the league.He still needs to work on his defensive game and needs to stop taking bad penalties.

Pogge is considered to be the future Franchise netminder for the leafs and gave us a glimpse of his talent against the Edmonton Oilers in the preseason. The leafs have invested alot in Justin by trading another top tier prospect goalie in Tuuka Rask in exchange for Andrew Raycroft. He is well known for leading Canda Junoirs to Gold with a 6-0 record and a stunning 1.00 GAA. I truly have alot of faith in Pogge and will have a breakout year with the Marlies. I could see him being one of the top 5 goalies in the league down the road and leading this team in net for a long time.

Well as of right now, the capn of the maple leafs is Mats Sundin. I dont have a grudge against Mats but i think another guy on the team desereves the captaincy say like Tucker,McCabe,or maybe even Blake. Dont get all mad saying Mccaber doesn't desereve. He has heart and will do pretty much anything to win. He is constantly at the top of the team for points in a year finishing third last year and is not afraid to hit. I dont think I have to say why Tucker deserves to be captian. He may not be an allstar but he consistently puts up over 60 pts a year and this year I figure he'll have a career year. Tucker also is not afraid to hit, and I dont want any leaf bashers saying hes a whiner and stuff like that. Well have to wait until the end of the year to see who gets the captaincy IF Sundin leaves. Who do you guys think will be the next captain once Sundin leaves the leafs??

Scott Clemmensen was being cheered by leaf fans 3 months before he even signed with them, why you ask, he was in net for the Devils and with a Devils win we go to the playoffs, well it didnt happen and the Devils get kicked out by our rival the Sens. Three months later Scott Clemmensen is a leaf. He will bring his experince of being a backup to Brodeur to the Leafs and Marlies and will probablly be mentor to Pogge. Clemmensen was probablly one of the best backups to come out of NJ in a while not saying his great but was better then the likes of JF Damphousse. Clemmensen is a great team player and is such big guy he lets the puck come to him, he needs to work more on his movement in the net and has to be more consistent will probablly be sent down to the Marlies this year or might sit in the press box as 3rd string goalie whatever JFJ and Maurice have in mind for him. It will be interesting to see how contributes to the team maybe like the Aubin of 05-06 even though Raycroft and Toskala are better than Belfour and Telliqvist.

Toskala has had a medicore to horrible preseason but of course its just preseason and could emerge to his task and take this team by the reins and be a number 1 goalie. Him and Raycroft will platoon between Starting until one of them emerges as the number 1 goalie. I have high hopes for Toskala and so do the fans. If he plays poorly the fans and the media will defintly send him the message. The only thing that might change his game is that he went from a small market team to what i call the centre of the hockey media universe. He has played alot of international hockey but is not that big and has a hard time covering most of the net he has also made his fair share of spectular saves. He also has to be more consistent.

Raycroft in my eyes played way too many games last year and will probablly play alot less games this year. Raycroft has played alot better then Toskala in preseason but then again its preseason. Raycroft has good potential to be a number 1 consistent goalie. Raycroft never gets rattled after giving up a goal and has great attitude. But he is easily beat up stairs and gives up the odd soft goal.

Aftermath Leafs vs. Sabres 2-7

Well this wasnt an ideal game from the leafs but......Right off the get go they started taking penaltys and fell down 2-0 after one. It continued into the 2nd when they scored two goals in the first 1:12 but the tide seemed to change a little when the leafs came within two with two shorthanded goals coming from the hands of Kubina and Kilger. But the leafs couldnt keep the momentum when Derek Roy scored three staright goals (1 in the second and 2 in the 3rd). All in all it was a very poor performance from the leafs. Vesa was still shaky in net and needs to give a good performance against the Red Wings. I wish Tlusty would have had a better performance playing with Antropov and Sundin but that wasnt the case.
